What you see above is a fantastic gun from the Turkish manufacturer Canik reviewed here at TTAG. The TP9 series is reliable, durable, ergonomic and accurate. It also boasts one of the best striker firing triggers on the market. They are great guns at any cost. Still, with an MSRP of only $399.95 (about $350 away), it's the best one under 4 Benjamins.
For $11 less than the Canik ($389 MSRP), you can pick up the US-made S&W SD9 VE. Now I like a variety of guns. I seem to like them whether they are big or small. But while on duty, you must carry a firearm that will quickly and humanely eliminate the threat. The Ruger LCRx in 38spl+P is a high quality, functional, reliable and forgiving handgun. Just load five .38spl+P rounds, close the cylinder, and you're ready to go. When an event occurs that requires action, draw the LCRx, aim and pull the trigger. It's simple, but very stressful to get through.
The LCRx 5430 has an exposed hammer unlike the straight LCR .38spl+P which has an internal hammer. Exposed and inside hammers have their pros and cons. My idea is to remove the hand rest once the hammer is inside for a steady hit. You can also manually jam the gun to force rotation into the next live round if the detonator is high if the odds aren't high. In Factory Patrol, this is highly unlikely to happen.
